Our Foundation

Why We Started This

We noticed something: most people in Vilnius love the idea of growing their own herbs and vegetables, but they didn't know where to start.

Back in 2019, the team at alpharidge Digital Solutions UAB was working on web projects for local businesses when we realized something important. Our families wanted fresh basil, mint, and oregano at their fingertips — not imported from across Europe. But the climate here in Lithuania is different. The balcony space is limited. The growing season doesn't match what you'd find in typical gardening books.

We started small. Growing herbs on our own balconies. Testing what actually works in Vilnius's climate. Sharing tips with neighbors. Taking notes on what succeeds and what fails.

Within a few seasons, we'd grown from a side project into something bigger. Today, we're dedicated to making balcony gardening accessible for everyone in Vilnius — whether you've got a sunny corner or just morning light, whether you're growing basil or planning a full vegetable garden.

What Drives Us

Our Core Beliefs

Fresh & Local

Growing herbs and vegetables at home means fresher ingredients. You pick them moments before cooking. That's the real difference between imported basil and what you've grown yourself.

Space-Smart Solutions

Not everyone has a sprawling garden. We focus on what works in small spaces — balconies, windowsills, patios. You don't need much to grow something amazing.

Vilnius-Specific Advice

The guides you'll find here are tailored to our climate, our seasons, our light patterns. What works in southern Europe might not work here — we know what does.

Learning by Doing

You'll learn faster by actually growing things than by reading theory. We give you practical, tested steps you can start today.

Our Methodology

How We Help You Grow

We've created a straightforward approach to balcony gardening. No overwhelming theory. Just practical steps that actually work in Vilnius.

1

Understand Your Space

We start by helping you assess what you've got — how much sunlight, the size of your balcony, what direction it faces. These factors determine everything else.

2

Choose Plants That Fit

Not all herbs thrive in the same conditions. We'll guide you toward plants that'll actually succeed in your specific setup — basil for sunny spots, mint for partial shade, oregano for dry conditions.

3

Master the Basics

Soil, watering, containers, feeding — we break down each element. You'll learn what matters and what doesn't. Mistakes are where real learning happens.

4

Adapt to Seasons

Vilnius has distinct seasons. Spring, summer, autumn, winter — each requires different strategies. We'll show you how to keep your garden thriving year-round, even during our long winters.

What We Stand For

Our Principles

Honesty

We won't oversell what's possible. Some plants fail. Some seasons are harder than others. We tell you the truth so you can plan realistically.

Practicality

Theory is fine, but we're focused on what actually works. Every guide, every tip — it's been tested in real Vilnius balconies and kitchens.

Accessibility

Gardening shouldn't be complicated or expensive. We show you how to start small, grow sustainably, and keep costs down without sacrificing quality.

Community

We're not just broadcasting information. We're building a community of people who care about growing their own food in Vilnius. Your questions and experiences matter.

Continuous Learning

Climate changes. New varieties appear. Better techniques emerge. We're constantly updating our guides based on what we're learning and what our community discovers.

Sustainability

Growing at home reduces packaging, transport, and waste. We promote methods that are gentle on the environment and your wallet.

Our Context

Why Vilnius Is Unique

Vilnius sits at 54°N latitude. That means our growing season, light patterns, and climate are fundamentally different from what you'll read in most international gardening resources.

The Challenge: Our winters are long and cold. Summer daylight stretches nearly 17 hours, but our autumn arrives quickly. Many standard herb varieties need adaptation. Growing on a balcony adds extra variables — wind, temperature swings, limited soil depth.

The Opportunity: Long summer days mean rapid growth. Our cool climate is perfect for mint, oregano, parsley, and other hardy herbs. The growing season rewards planning and attention, but the results — fresh herbs throughout autumn, winter preservation techniques, early spring starts — make it worthwhile.

Our Focus: alpharidge Digital Solutions UAB has spent years testing what actually thrives here. We're not guessing. We're sharing tested, real-world experience from Vilnius balconies just like yours.
